The Chicago White Sox have traded relief pitcher David Aardsma to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for a couple of minor league pitchers.  I don’t think Aardsma had much a future with the White Sox and they figured it was worth the risk to trade him to the Red Sox for two younger pitchers.

Willy Moto who is a converted outfielder and Miguel Socolovich will be coming over to the White Sox.  Both players will be expected to contribute at the minor league level in 2008 but could possibly get a look at in spring training.

On Friday the Chicago White Sox announced that they signed relief pitcher Octavio Dotel to a two year contract worth $11 million dollars.  That is quite a bit of money if you ask me for someone who has only pitched 30 innings since 2004!  Talk about earning your money lol!

What do all the White Sox fans think?  You agree with spending $11 million on Dotel when there were possibly some other options out there that you could have probably got in a Joe Crede trade.

***Quick Update:  Dotel’s agent is saying the deal isn’t finalized and there are five other teams in the running for Octavio.  We will keep you updated.***

Joe Crede signed a one year contract with the Chicago White Sox on Thursday for $5.1 million dollars!  That is a nice little payday for Crede even though he could possibly get traded during spring training.  Will another team take on that contract is another question…

I would love for Crede to come out and have a great spring training and stay with the White Sox, but I just don’t know if that will happen.  There have been rumors about Crede being traded, but as of now he is a member of the White Sox, so we are hoping for the best with him.

General Manager Ken Williams announced this afternoon that the Chicago White Sox have traded for Nick Swisher from the Oakland Athletics.  The White Sox will be sending Gio Gonzalez, Fautino De Los Santos, and Ryan Sweeney to the Athletics for Swisher.

Swisher batted .262 with 22 homers and 78 RBIs in 150 games in 2007, his third full big league season. He also drew 100 walks, ranking him sixth in the AL, for a career-best .381 on-base percentage.

While I’m sad to part ways with Gio Gonzalez, this is a pretty good pickup for the White Sox.  Swisher will bring a little swagger to the clubhouse and that is something the White Sox could really use.  Wonder how Swisher and A.J. will get along lol!

What do you all think?  Is trading Nick Swisher a good move for the team at this point?  Did the White Sox give up too much for him?
