Pierzynski singles in 10th for White Sox row

A.J. Pierzynski hit a go-ahead single in the 10th inning and finished with three RBIs as the Chicago White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 5-4 Monday for their seventh straight win. Chris Sale (1-1) earned his first major league victory, finishing with 2 2-3 innings of scoreless relief. Jose Valverde (2-4) took the loss.

It's impossible to talk about the San Diego Padres' 2010 season without using some variation of the word "surprise." As in, they were surprisingly good for so long that it's pretty surprising they've fallen so quickly. On Aug. 26, they had 76 victories and were — surprisingly (OK, shockingly) — tied with the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays in the loss column in the race for baseball's best record. When Labor Day arrived, they still had 76 victories.

Ramirez not in White Sox starting lineup

Red Sox fans won't likely get a chance to show their feelings toward Manny Ramirez in the series finale with the Chicago White on Sunday. White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen decided to give Ramirez a day off to keep him fresh after he played both games of a doubleheader sweep over the Red Sox on Saturday.

Floyd helps Chicago sweep Boston with 2nd 3-1 win

Manny blames himself for sour ending in Boston

White Sox slugger Manny Ramirez took the blame Friday for his rocky departure from Boston and said he would have joined the Red Sox if they had claimed him when he was placed on waivers this month. Ramirez was back in Boston for the first time since the Los Angeles Dodgers handed him over to Chicago on Tuesday in a waiver deal.

Manny Ramirez was not in the Chicago White Sox's starting lineup Tuesday, but he did make an appearance with his new team. Ramirez was on deck when A.J. Pierzynski hit a ninth-inning home run that gave the Sox a road 4-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians. While Pierzynski circled the bases, Ramirez returned to the dugout and didn't hit. Instead, he high-fived teammates to celebrate the homer. Before the game, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen told reporters that Ramirez was tired from a cross-country flight to join his new team.

White Sox bring up 3 minor leaguers

The Chicago White Sox have recalled three minor leaguers on the first day teams can expand their rosters. The club promoted catcher Tyler Flowers and outfielder Alejandro De Aza from Triple-A Charlotte and recalled right-hander Gregory Infante from Double-A Birmingham. Infante will join Chicago's depleted bullpen.
