Bartolo Colon was a member of the Chicago White Sox back in 2003 and now he will be a member of the White Sox in 2009. Colon and the White Sox agreed on a one-year contract for $1million dollars. Colon can earn up to $2 million depending on how many innings he pitches.

Colon has not pitched that great in the past two seasons while he was with the Los Angeles Angels, however the Sox are hoping he can stay healthy and turn things around in 09. In the two previous seasons for the Angels, Colon had a 7-13 combined record in 28 total starts, with a dismal 5.90 ERA.

I like the signing as the upside is huge for the Sox. $1 million for Colon is a steal in my opinion!

The Chicago White Sox and Atlanta Braves have officially completed a six player deal that was first talked about earlier in the week. The White Sox will be sending starting pitcher Javier Vazquez and relief pitcher Boone Logan to the Braves in exchange for shortstop Brent Lillibridge, catcher Tyler Flowers, left-handed pitcher Santos Rodriguez and third baseman Jon Gilmore.

The highlight of this deal for the White Sox is shortstop Brent Lillibridge who is a pretty good prospect even though he struggled last year in Triple-A Richmond while he hit just .220 with a .294 on-base percentage in 90 games. He has been successful in 127 of his 162 stolen-base attempts at the Minor League level.

Flowers caught Cox’s attention during Spring Training, and certainly wowed some scouts with the power he showed while playing in the AFL this year.

While playing for Advanced Class A Myrtle Beach this season, Flowers hit .288 with 17 homers and a .498 slugging percentage. Although he has the offensive tools to succeed, scouts have said that he needs to make great strides from a defensive standpoint to be serviceable as a catcher at the Major League level.

Gilmore, a 20-year-old third baseman, hit .186 in 27 games with Class A Rome this season. While with Rookie Level Danville in 2007, he hit .337 with four homers and a .473 slugging percentage.

Rodriguez, a 20-year-old left-handed pitcher, went 1-2 with a 2.79 ERA in 14 relief appearances for the Gulf Coast League Braves this year. In 29 innings, he recorded 45 strikeouts and issued 13 walks.

The Chicago White Sox packed Nick Swisher’s bags for him on Thursday as they shipped him off to the New York Yankees in exchange for three players. The White Sox will be getting infielder Wilson Betemit and minor league pitchers Jeff Marquez and Jhonny Nunez. Besides Swisher going to New York, minor league pitcher Kanekoa Texeira will also be going along in the trade to the Yankees.

Swisher hit .219 with 24 home runs in 153 games with Chicago this season but never really got into a grove like they White Sox had hoped when they got him from the Oakland A’s.

Marquez, was a supplemental first-round draft pick by the Yankees out of Sacramento City College in 2004. He posted a 43-40 record and a 3.60 ERA in five minor league seasons with New York.

Texeira was 6-3 with 21 saves and a 1.33 ERA in 51 combined relief appearances with Class A Winston-Salem and Double-A Birmingham, ranking second among White Sox minor leaguers in saves. Betemit hit .265 with 13 doubles, six home runs and 25 RBI in 87 games with the Yankees in 2008, making starts at all four infield positions.

Betemit hit .265 with 13 doubles, six home runs and 25 RBI in 87 games with the Yankees in 2008, making starts at all four infield positions.

Overall I like this trade for the Sox as they picked up three decent players. Betemit can play right now for the Sox and probably put up similiar numbers that Swisher did and the Sox dumped his huge contract off onto the Yankees.

What do you say Sox fans?

The Chicago White Sox and Ken Griffey Jr. are parting ways after the White Sox declined his option for the 2009 season. The White Sox will now have to pay Griffey Jr. two million while the Reds pick up the other two million. The White Sox want to go a little younger in the outfield so they didn’t need to bring back Griffey.

One team rumored to be very interested in Griffey Jr. is the Atlanta Braves. We will have to see if anything happens there.

The postseason didn’t get off on the right foot for the Chicago White Sox as they dropped game one of the ALDS against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday afternoon. The Sox lost to the Rays by the score of 6-4 as the Rays put up six runs on White Sox starting pitcher Javier Vazquez.

Vazquez was pretty bad as he gave up two solo home runs to Evan Longoria and only pitched 4 1/3 innings. He was tagged for eight hits and six runs in those four plus inning of action. It wasn’t the start that Ozzie and the rest of the coaches wanted to see what is for sure.

All four of the sox runs came via the home run ball as Dewayne Wise hit a three-run blast in the third inning and Paul Konerko added a solo home run in the ninth inning. The White Sox need to do a better job of manufacturing runs and not rely on the home run ball all the time.

Hopefully in game two of the series we will see a sox victory and a good pitching performance out of Mark Buehrle.

Jim Thome stepped up with a long solo home run in the seventh inning to send the Chicago White Sox to the playoffs as they beat the Minnesota Twins 1-0 in their one game playoff. It was a blackout at the cell on Tuesday night and it was a pretty black game as neither team had much offense going.

Thome’s solo shot off of Twins starting pitcher Nick Blackburn was a shot to straight away center field. Thome absolutely hammered the ball and there was no question that it was going over the wall. It was a good thing that Thome went yard because the sox only four other hits in the game.

The Twins only had two hits in the game as White Sox starter John Danks pitched eight awesome innings. Danks allowed the two hits and there was only one scoring threat for the Twins. However Ken Griffey Jr. threw out Michael Cuddyer who attempted to tag up and score in the fifth inning. Cuddyer attempted to knock the ball loose as he plowed over A.J. Pierzynksi however A.J. held on and the White Sox got out of the inning.

Bobby Jenks had no problems in the ninth inning as he recorded the save.

Now the Sox will head down to Tampa Bay to take on the Rays in the ALDS. The series will get under way on Thursday. Let’s see if the Sox can stay hot and upset the Rays who won the East Division.

The Chicago White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers in a must win on Monday afternoon and they will now await the MInnesota Twins for a one game playoff game on Tuesday night. The winner of the White Sox and Twins game will move onto the 2008 playoffs where they will take on the Tampa Bay Rays.

Alexei Ramirez was the mvp of the game on Monday afternoon as he hit a grand slam in the in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie. The Sox then added on a couple of more runs in the eighth inning for insurance. Ramirez’s grand slam was his fourth of the year and it set a rookie record for grand slams in a season.

Jermaine Dye and A.J. Pierzynski both had one rbi each as well for the Sox.

Gavin Floyd was the winning pitcher as he tossed six innings. Floyd gave up five hits and two runs while striking out eight batters. Floyd did exactly what the White Sox were hoping for in the must win game. Now the Sox will be hoping for the same from John Danks as he takes the mound on Tuesday night against the Twins.

The game sold out very fast on Ticketmaster this evening so if you want to goto the game you will probably have to buy off of StubHub and then pick up at their office or buy some ticketfast tickets via ebay etc. Do want you need to get to the game however, as the Sox need our support to get another win and advance to the playoffs!

What a terrible job by the White Sox bullpen on Wednesday night as they allowed the Yankees to score five runs in the seventh and eighth innings and go onto beat the Sox by the score of 5-1. The Sox just can’t give up those kind of runs late in the game if they want to make it into the playoffs.

Scott Linebrink was charged with three hits and three runs including one home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Mike MacDougal also allowed one run in the game on a wild pitch. Clayton Richard was the starting pitcher and he lasted 6 2/3 innings while giving up five hits and two rns. Richard took the loss in the game even though he didn’t pitch that bad at all.

Jermaine Dye had the only rbi for the sox. Dye grounded out in the third inning that plated Orlando Cabrera for the first and only sox run. Just not any offense on Wednesday night.

Everyone better hope for a Twins loss against the Indians now!

The Chicago White Sox had problems on Monday night in the Big Apple as they took on the New York Yankees. The Sox were doubled up as they lost the game by the score of 4-2. This sure was a tough loss for the White Sox as they are in a playoff battle with the Minnesota Twins.

Mark Buehrle got the start for the sox and lasted six innings. He did give up six hits and two runs including one home run. Ehren Wassermann and Horacio Ramirez both gave up one run in relief as they allowed the Yankees to win the game.

Dewayne Wise provided the only offense for the sox as he hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to tie the game.

Tough loss for the Sox and they now need to pick up a win on Tuesday.

After being swept in a double header on Tuesday, the Chicago White Sox responded with a win on Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays. The White Sox scored three runs in the sixth inning and then held off the Blue Jays for a 6-5 victory.

Mark Buehrle was the starting pitcher for the White Sox and he picked up the win after throwing 7 1/3 innings. Buehrle did give up seven hits but struck out six and only allowed one run to score. It was a very good quality start for Buehrle who dueled with Roy Halladay. Octavio Dotel was charged with one run in the eighth inning, and then Bobby Jenks came in and allowed three outs in the ninth inning.

A.J. Pierzynski led the sox at the plate with three rbi. A.J. had a rbi single and then a two run double in the game. Jim Thome, Jerry Owens, and Brian Anderson all chipped in with one rbi each as well. It was a good showing for the offense against Halladay who usually shuts down the opposition.
